flu shotWell, once again we are coming into the midst of “flu season”, and once again we are bombarded at every turn to get our flu shots. It appears that no matter how poor the flu vaccine effectiveness is, there is still a national call for everyone to get their vaccination.

While I legally cannot advise someone not to get a flu shot, I do feel compelled to at least provide some information that will certainly not be presented anywhere in the news.

Did you know that:

  • With each successive annual flu vaccination, the theoretical protection from the vaccine has been shown to diminish, according to a meta-analysis conducted by the Cochrane Collaboration?
  • Research that was published in 2014 indicated that resistance to influenza-related illness in was greatest in people who had NOT gotten a flu vaccination in the previous five years?
  • At least one flu shot flat out admits on its own label that “…there have been no controlled trials adequately demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with FLULAVAL.”?

These are just a few of many points of concern that really should be addressed before declaring a national, one-size-fits-all approach to treating illness.

Vit. D supplementation has actually been shown to have a greater impact on influenza reduction, which very possibly explains why the flu is so prominent in winter months, when sun exposure is at a minimum.

In the end, everyone has to make their own choice as to what is best for them. I only encourage everyone to ask questions and do their own research, and to not blindly follow corporate advertisements.
